Research
Professor Milne works primarily in contemporary French aesthetics and philosophy and in phenomenology. He is particularly interested in the influence of Kant on the thought of Jean-François Lyotard and Jacques Derrida, and has published several articles linking their respective readings of Kant's aesthetics and philosophy of history to issues in contemporary aesthetics, ethics, and politics. He is associate editor and one of the translators of the six-volume Jean-François Lyotard: Writings on Contemporary Art and Artists, presently appearing with Leuven University Press:

His current research is focused on Lyotard's interest in the Kantian sublime, and on the political implications of conceptions of the world or cosmos in recent European thought (Husserl, Heidegger, Merleau-Ponty, Derrida, Kristeva, Nancy, Latour).
